Gackt is an incredible japanese rock singer in my opinion. His songs are full of emotion and liberty, and are just Gackt! He was formally known for as the lead singer for the popular and most influential jrock band, Malice Mizer. Once he decided to leave, he went on to become a solo artist. During this time, he was realized for his skilled talents in nearly every instrument you can think of and that he was the original composer for all of his music. If you haven't listened to him, do so!
Song: Dybbuk
This song took quite a while to grow on me. It's extremely repetitive, with endless screaming of, "Dybbuk!" And never try to listen to this song whenever you're trying to go to bed. Instead, it makes a pretty nice song to listen to in the morning, such as driving to school or work. It's pretty strong during Gackt's screaming sections, but I'm not so sure about the um.. rapper or the background opera they have going on there.
Song: Mind Forest
Mind Forest is one of my absolute favorites on the Crescent album. The song starts out with a strong flute, it really reminds me of my martial arts training, something very prestigious. Along with the flute, it has strong guitar chords in the background. The song itself fades from the inspiring instrumentals, and then fades into Gackt's subtle singing. Definitely worth a listen.
Song: Tsuki No Uta
Acoustic! This song is always very relaxing to listen to. Gackt's style of singing fits perfectly with the plucking of the guitar strings, there's no effort into making the guitar and vocals mix. The chorus is brought out lovely, with distinct guitar chords, in all a very good song.
Song: Kimi ga matteiru kara
Oooh Orchestra! Very grand in the beginning with the cellos bringing out emphasis unto the song. I'm not too fond of the drums in this song, they seem off to me. The breaks in between chorus and verses are probably what keeps this song together. Not a horrible song, but it just doesn't do much for me.
Song: Solitary
Oh little kiddies laughing the background! Hehe. This is probably my favorite ballad from this album. The guitar is very simple, yet relaxing, Gackt did a good job composing this section. His vocals are also very laid back, and whenever needed in the song, he brings out his voice for emotions needed in the song. Wonderfully put together.
Song: Hoshi no Suna
A beautiful piano intro is used throughout this song, it really makes the listener interestedin the song. The arpeggios during the verses make the song, very elegant. This song doesn't focus too much on the vocals, but instead allows the piano to tie this song together. In the middle of the song, Gackt's vocals should be commended for the emotion he uses, stopping every few measures for an elegant sound on the piece.
Song: Lust for Blood
This song is extremely emotional. It has lovely orchestra in the background, with a very dark sound. Gackt matches the style, as usual, very quiet, as if trying to keep his thoughts a secret. In the verses, however, there are words at the ends of sentences that can be barely be made out. In the chorus, it seems as if, out of rage he cannot keep his feelings intact, and is overwhelmed by a mixture of fear and sorrow. Gackt does an excellent job on vocals, it makes you want to go ahead and sing along with him. This song is most definitely one of the best on this album.
Song: White Eyes
The drums on this song is actually not too bad. The intro is very fast paced, with GacktJob just jamming out, it quickly shifts into slightly quieter part of the song. Gackt seems to have his voice muted a bit for this part. He then changes again and brings his voice out for a very strong chorus, goes back down, and up again. Very impressive that he can do this that easily. The next time, the drums and the guitar are very much in sync. The drums do a good job on the fills, then jumps back into the chorus. If you like fast paced songs, give this one a try.
Song: Kimi ga oiketa yume
This song is just full of happiness *cheesy smile* This song didn't really appeal much to me because it seemed... um quite corny. But it's not a bad song entirely, and has some very good acoustics, and is for the most part very fast paced. It's definitely a good pick me up song. *imagine Gackt singing to you fangirls ;)*
Song: Last Song
The beginning of this song scares me when you listen to it with headphones, with the record player in the background. It sounds as if it'd come out of a horror movie. However, thankfully, it breaks into a nice acoustic guitar intro, however, this song is extremely sad. The song seems to keep this up for quite a while, but then breaks into a very strong, yet still sad chorus.
Song: Birdcage
This is one of the first Gackt songs that I have ever listened to. It's got a lovely acoustic guitar, and a soft violin playing in 3/4. Gackt begins to sing shortly, accenting the words perfectly. This goes on for quite a while, then the guitar leads into a much faster chorus, where the guitar and violin picks up at incredible yet suitable speed. The violin does lovely scales to give the song some flavor. Gackt adds some very emotional vocals at this part, trying to make the listener perceive the lyrics. Then an orchestra comes in, into a very essential part of the song. You could say this is the climax of the song, the cellos are playing strong chords repeatedly, the violins play a soft part, and the guitars and drums just keep jamming out throughout the song. If you are wanting to try out some Gackt music, this is a recommended song.
Song: Orenji no Taiyou
Every fans dream. A duet. With L'Arc~en~Ciel's Hyde, and Gackt. The song starts out with a light guitar, and I believe, hyde is singing the intro. Then, they sing the part again, only the both of them. It stops for a brief moment, and a violin brings them into a strong melody, with excellent drum fills. It ceases again, and Gackt sings the next verse. They both then pick up singing the next verse, and do an excellent job on the slurs implemented into the vocals. The violin is a beautiful touch to the piece which gives the song softness. It then carries out into the orchestra, with another building climax in the piece, with an added guitar solo. Gackt and hyde then exchange parts, building their parts, and finally come together with a lovely emphasis on vocals into the chorus again. These guys did an excellent job on this song, beautiful piece.
