Moonchild is a japanese movie by TLA Releasing featuring japenese rock singers, Hyde and Gackt, and Chinese singer Wang Leehom.
Story
"Boyishly handsome Sho feels he is doomed to walk in his idol Kei's footsteps as a vampire with the gift of eternal life and the curse of blood thirst. They, along with Son, rise as small-time gangsters while living on the streets and killing for sport and survival. Over time, their tight friendship becomes corrupted because of their rivalry and shared love for the same woman." - Excerpt from DVD
Basically this movie is about vampires, and gangsters, and love triangles.
Action Scenes
The actions scenes in this movie weren't choreographed the best - however, they are extremely amusing to watch. The beginning fight scene starts with Gackt screaming like a girl, and running around like a ballerina. Not to mention Hyde comes to help by magically floating in the air and killing people. Another scene involves Hyde while ballroom dancing with his dead foe all whilst shooting the remainder of his enemies. Hyde also does a really ridiculous matrix move on the ground while his enemy has him at gunpoint as he moves his head side to side at an impossible speed. Okay, so some of the fight scenes are a tad ridiculous but you'll just have to put that element out of mind and enjoy it anyway. My favorite fight scene had to be when the trio first meet a 3 gun point. And you focus enough you can notice, that from time to time they do use some pretty effective moves.
Acting Ability
I know all fangirls are going to hate me for this, but the acting in this movie was not great. Out of the three actors, Leehom was the best by far. He didn't act ridiculously stupid, and even though the entire movie was in Cantonese, his emotions were definitely conveyed the best. Hyde also did a good job of acting, and made his character seem most believable. I'm not sure whether Gackt's character was intended to be the way he played him, but Sho was an entire dork throughout the movie. Either way, even during the serious scenes, Gackt played his character too dramatic, with the classic, "Nooo!" and "Those bastards will pay!" Etc. But I suppose you could say that is what makes this movie great, crappy acting.
Cheese Scenes
This movie is great just for it's cheese scenes, for example two idiots at a bar, playing with pretend swords, they stop to talk to Sho about a new tattoo one of them had done recently, they also have a British accent:
Guy 1: Sho, look, cool tattoo, huh?
Butler: Tell him what it really means
Sho: There's no fucking ninjas in Japan.
Guy 1: You see? It says "Ninja". Maybe one day I will go to Japan and be a ninja.
Butler: Things like Ninjas no longer exist anymore in Japan.
Guy 1: Don't lie to me, all Japanese spies are ninjas.
Guy 2: Ninjas are bad.
Guy 1: My Ninja doesn't exist anymore?
Sho: No ninjas exist in Japan.
Guy 1: Really?
Sho: Really.
Guy 1: *shocked look on his face*
So now you understand what I mean by, "cheese" scenes. Congratulations.
Drug References
This movie has a few interesting drug references. There are several scenes of Sho's brother using marijuana and him hallucinating over a gold fish floating around his head. Sho and Kei also an interesting tactic of drugging their enemies with pizza... That's all I can say on that one. O.o
Overall
Okay, I think everyone has a clear understanding on how ridiculous this movie is. It probably had a low budget, and what does one do with a low budget? They make a crappy film! But that's alright, because everyone is going to buy it because it has Hyde, Gackt, and Leehom anyway. And everyone is going to love it, because they love Hyde, Gackt, and Leehom too. But even if you aren't convinced that you should buy it, you should buy it anyway, because on a rainy day it might do the trick to turn that frown upside down. Come on, you know you want to.
